I was presented with three paths in the middle of the road
The first was filled with lust, sex, and temptation
The second with worldly things
The third was filled with light
An old man stood blocking my path and asked me a question
“Which do you choose?”
I stood for a minute and contemplated my thoughts
But being indecisive as I was I asked him
What do you think?”
He looked me over for a second flabbergasted and replied
“This is no riddle it’s not hard to decide but I’ll give you a day to come back and reply”
As I stood there I realized my thoughts were not my own
And as I fell to the ground I felt temptation creeping up on me
Leaving a tingling sensation
My will was no longer my own
This new thrill had become my home
Scary it was to think how quick I said yes
Not knowing that this at best was a failed test
Mind corrupting the body
Thoughts of fornicating flesh
Visions of intertwining with a stream of endless sighs
“Wake up”
Nakedly walking into a field of black vines
“Wake up”
Flesh slowly starts to burn
“Wake up”
I see the old man looking curiously upon me
I stand up and see the faint scarring upon my arms
He did not let me die
It was now nighttime
Still indecisive but looking quickly away from the first
He let out a small cough then said
“The day is almost done by sunrise you shall decide”
I nod.
Lay at the side of the road and my eyes went dark
It became my life
I must conform
I can’t differentiate from the norm
So what if I displease Him
I need to do the people whim
As long as they love me
My soul will be free
It wasn’t
I was chained down
Following blindly as I was led astray
“Open your eyes”
I can’t see
“Open your eyes”
Why didn’t I let God love me
“Open your eyes”
I look up and see a light
The old now young
Youth radiating just as the sun
My skin glistens, and upon my head a crown
My name is life
And God helped me take back the night
You see he picked me up when I had fallen
And all I had to do was call him
Allah, Jehovah, Olorun mi, my God
His grace is enduring
His will keeps me learning
Oh how merciful is his name
Without him my heart could not be tamed
Forever grateful
Always faithful
I chose light
